ART BRUT
Dedicated to Charles Alexander, in
honor of his exhibition
Leonardo,
Flexed his pecs
Sargent,
Bench pressed Madame X
Lautrec,
Limped a marathon
Dali,
Strapped a gold cup on
Banged and battered
Destitute
Battling big, bad Art Brut
VOICES
(for Joy Hakanson Colby)
You are hearing voices?
I should hope so.
The place is full of them.
Norman Rockwell’s wife,
“Where is my fur coat?”
Van Cliburn’s taxi driver,
“Who’s payin’ this guy’s fare?”
Frida to Diego,
“What is it, sigh da bim?”
One hundred years of voices,
And every one says, “Welcome.”
Grand March at the Scarab Club
Welcome reveler..!!
The mirror ball revolves
Reflecting rainbows.
On dancers in the dark
Costumes, all elaborate
Shouts and laughter
Charleston, jitterbug, hip hop
The main gallery is never quiet
There is a grand march every night
And now, you are joining it..
